This is the labour to fit a three-camera dash cam system where the rear camera mounts on the outside of the vehicle — front camera on the windscreen, cabin-facing camera inside, and the rear camera mounted externally on the tailgate, bumper or roofline.

Why an exterior camera costs more than an interior one

A camera mounted inside the glass is protected from everything. One mounted outside has to survive road salt, high-pressure car washes, freeze-thaw cycles and standing water — for years. That changes the job.

The cable has to pass through the body, which means finding or making a sealed entry point and weatherproofing it properly. The mount has to hold through vibration and winter. And the run is longer, because the cable travels outside the cabin before it comes back in. Done badly, water tracks down the cable into the vehicle, which is a far more expensive problem than the camera.

That's the whole difference between this rate and our standard three-channel install. Same number of cameras, different job.

Which install do I need?

If all three cameras mount inside the vehicle, you want DCAM3-Install at $210. If two cameras mount outside, that's DCAM3EXT2-Install. Not sure which applies to your system? Tell us the model and we'll confirm before you book.

Bringing your own system?

That's fine, and this rate covers fitting it. We'll handle the mounting, sealing, wiring, setup and testing. Note that we can't diagnose faults in hardware we didn't supply without a separate troubleshooting charge.

One thing worth knowing

Every vehicle is different. Depending on make, model and year, some installations need additional parts — relays, diodes, resistors, grommets or a vehicle-specific harness — which are charged separately if required. We'll always tell you before doing the work, not after.
