Understanding the Compustar lineup
Compustar sell systems as a controller plus a remote kit, and the two are priced separately. That's why the same module appears at several prices — the difference is which fob you pair with it.
CMX and CM control modules are the brains. The CMX is what most of our plug-and-play kits are built around.
CMX-BLADEAL kits pair that module with an iDatalink BLADE bypass and a vehicle-specific harness in one box. If you want the shortest route from ordering to a working system, this is it.
Remote kits are where the range comes from. A 1-way remote sends a command and hopes. A 2-way LED remote confirms the car started. A 2-way LCD remote shows you the status and cabin temperature on a screen, at up to 3,000 feet or 3 miles depending on the kit.
Q9, T12 and G17 are complete systems named for their remote. The Q9 and T12 are the flagship packages, and both are available with DRONE smartphone control bundled in.
DRONE replaces range with the internet. Start the car from another city if you like. Note that it needs an ongoing plan — see our smartphone controllers page for what that actually costs over time.
Where Compustar is strongest
Range, and the confirmation that comes with it. Nobody else in this category matches a 3-mile 2-way remote, and the two-way part matters more than the distance — knowing the car started saves the walk out to check.
Their security systems are also the most complete of the three brands we carry. Compustar alarms integrate with the factory system rather than fighting it, and the accessory range around them is deep: the DAS-II four-in-one sensor, glass break, tilt, starter kill, and upgrade kits that turn an existing remote starter into a full alarm without replacing it.
Where it costs you more
Compustar is the most expensive of the three brands we carry, and the pricing structure is part of why. Because the module and the remote kit are separate purchases, the number you first see isn't always the number you pay. A CMX module plus a 2-way LCD remote kit lands well above a comparable Fortin or iDatastart system with a factory-fob start.
That's worth paying when range is the point. It isn't if you park in a driveway and your factory fob already reaches. Plenty of our customers are better served by 3xLock start on a cheaper platform, and we'll tell you so.
Some Compustar solutions also carry the ⭕ flag, meaning they use KLON programming through an ADS-USB tool. That exists so you don't sacrifice a key. We pre-program modules before they ship on most vehicles, so for most customers it never comes up.
