This is a mechanical plunger style pin-switch. It is commonly used for remote starter hood-pin applications. The shaft is constructed out of polycarbonate plastic, which is the best material to withstand the elements.
The threaded mount shaft is nickel plated to help avoid corrosion (it is recommended to lubricate regularly though).
